Minimum building separation distance for residential activities Any new building or addition to an existing building used for residential activities must provide an 8m separation distance between buildings located on the same site, as shown in the diagrams below. This standard does not apply to Neighbourhood centres other than Aro Valley, Berhampore and Ngaio Centres. Assessment criteria where the standard is infringed: The extent to which a reduced setback will increase dominance and shadowing related effects on residential units within the development site; and Dominance, privacy and shading effects on adjoining sites.
